Hawaii 3.0

Island Zouk at Next Door
The Zouk community makes the Paradise in Hawaii: hence the name of this blog series. My adventures in Hawaii were book-ended by fantastic social dances. My first day there ended with the unforgettable vibe at Next Door with Island Zouk, and I had a wonderful finale with the Honolulu Zouk peeps in my last days. I profiled both of the groups in my last couple of blogs (here is the Island Zouk blog and here is the Honolulu Zouk blog) – but wanted to give a final overview. With some cool photos of course!!!
The Hawaii Zouk scene is relatively young at two years of age. What it lacks in experience, however, it makes up in passion. Megastar Evelyn Magyari Lopez lives and teaches in Hawaii (you know- from my most favorite video of all time). The classes have wonderful instructors. The atmosphere is one of acceptance, love and respect. I can’t wait to get back there… I just have to wait until Trump is no longer in office…
The People make the Place

Next Door Scary Pandas
The locations of the social dances in China Town make for some interesting sights coming to and from the venues. But in the case of the social at Next Door it is so worth it just for the wall art – some of which is pictured here.
But it is the people in Hawaii that make it such a great place to dance. Despite a relatively inexperienced crowd, there are some brilliant humans here who are intent to pass on their passion for dance. The teaching at Honolulu Zouk is second-to-none, and they have literally the best female lead (in my experience) here (Mahina – I am talking about you chicka!). Everyone is so welcoming and helpful; and I am sad to have ended my stay there.

Honolulu Zouk – Final Sunday Session
But I didn’t only dance in Hawaii.
I had the best cold brew coffee I’ve ever had at Brue Bar.

I swam at the most beautiful beach on the island of Oahu.

Lanakai Beach, Hawaii
Found a random cactus garden.

Did some cool tourist sight-seeing.

Saw the Duke.

Lots of beautiful flowers.

And had a LOT of pineapple.
